Placenta, 2018

‘Placenta’ is a series of prints created using block printing ink and the placenta once attached to my daughter. The work was made in somewhat of a state of delirium, made in the early hours of the morning, compounded with several days of minimal sleep. Through this process the work explored my body’s ability to create and sustain human life, the obscure experience of holding ones organs in your hands and the fine line between reality and dream-like delusion in first months of motherhood. The use of black block printing ink aims to move the viewer away from the usual niceties and rhetoric of motherhood to a more scientific and deductive view.
