Culturally responsive therapy for creative minds

Mental Health for support
for creative organisations and individuals

Avrille Burrows
Mental Health Social Worker | Arts Therapist | Artist

I pay my respects and acknowledge that I live, work, connect and create on the lands of the Wurundjeri People. I acknowledge their continuing connection to land, sea and community and that sovereignty was never ceded. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Always was, and always will be Aboriginal Land.

Artist?
Creative?
Or need a different approach to therapy?

YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT SPOT

As an artist, your creativity is deeply integrated with your identity. Navigating the complexities of the work, the uncertainties of the industry, and wearing multiple hats can take a toll on your wellbeing and mental health.

Here the Therapeutic process intertwines
with the Creative process.

We support your mental health, deepen your creative practice and
strengthen your relationships.

Come on in, help yourself to a cup of tea, and lets get started…

Are you an arts organisation looking to provide Mental Health support for your creatives? fill out the form above.

I have a space at Pola Practice, Ascot Vale, Naarm. This link will take you to their intake form.

Hello! I’m Avrille

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Arts Therapist and Artist who has worked with individuals, families and organisations for nearly 14 years across community mental health and private practice.

I love supporting creative and diverse folk like myself, helping them find clarity in their identities and feel more confident in managing their mental health and wellbeing.

As a woman of colour from a South Asian background, an artist, parent, and migrant, I bring a unique perspective to navigating the intersections of culture, artistic expression, identity, family dynamics, and parenting across cultures.

I have been involved in a number of creative developments and projects, and have an arts practice that is evolving with each stage of life.

Investing in therapy provides you with a strong knowledge base about yourself. We look at your history, the different parts of yourself and how your body and mind work. This brings a wealth of understanding, compassion and confidence allowing clarity, direction and ease with whats ahead.

a conscious and creative approach

I use a varied mix of approaches to work out what might be the right fit for you. We all have different ways of learning and communicating, so spending some time understanding this allows us to get the best out of our time together.

Some of the individuals I currently see bring in their knitting/sewing, or paint/colour in during our sessions. Some play with the sand tray on the table and others enjoy a hot cup of tea as we talk. There is always coloured markers and paper, as I find writing and mapping out conversations and idea’s help us to better understand the picture.

There is a weighted blanket, a few fidget toys, scents and resources that I have found has been supportive for clients. I use lamps and natural light in the room, and if being outside feels better - the option for a walk or sitting in a park is available.

  • Trauma informed & evidence based

  • Interpersonal, relational and attachment based

  • Psychodynamic & psychoanalytic

  • Art Therapy, Creative, Sand tray, Play based

  • Narrative and Gestalt approach

  • Mindful and Somatic
