Woman As Mountain, 2021

Woman as Mountain started off as a physical movement of my body, danced it’s way to an image painted on paper and arrived here, stitched into card. This image found its way to me a week before the 1st Melbourne lockdown in March 2020. She is an a woman grounded, feet planted, sturdy. Her hips move and rotate easily, her body strong. Over the last nearly two years of this pandemic, a pregnancy, a new baby and moving home, she has served as a source of strength. On some days we spent hours together, on others we only had a moment to exchange a smile. The action of creating her over and over again providing familiarity as the outside world became unfamiliar and a reminder that we are living through a moment in history. Hair embedded as evidence of this time, and yarn dyed by local flora and kitchen scraps.
